The power of retreat...Do nothing. Be More.

Last month, I did something I never did before...I attended an 8 day silent retreat. I did it in Dublin Jesuits.  I hadn't realised it was supposed to be silent...long story...and found the first couple of days quite mentally tough. However, after a while,  it was truly blissful not to worry about cooking meals and put all work stuff out of my head.

One of the outcomes I was hoping for was to get a clearer sense of direction around my business..but I learned stuff that was actually surprising..and perhaps more valuable...

  1. Part of the work of the retreat was a focus on being, rather than doing. The idea was to get beyond the daily buzz of activity to be able to listen to God/Source/your deepest self...whatever way you want to phrase it. The BEING part was both deeper and more surprising than I expected. I realised that I had to pay greater attention to the softer, emotional creative side of myself and I found myself writing poetry...something I haven't done for years!
  2. The doing part is important...but the time I spend nurturing my relationship with my deeper self/God..pays rich dividends in choosing actions afterwards...
  3. I feel a deeper gratitude for many aspects of my life...even the ones that I haven't got "sorted" like my weight or financial freedom. I see them as being more a work in progress than something that needs to be "fixed".
  4. I had a wonderful spiritual director who had the absolutely perfect approach for me...a sort of petite iron fist in a soft feminine glove...thanks Paula...and that made me realise how valuable it can be to someone outside your situation to help get perspective..
  5. I spend some really rich wonderful time in Nature. Manresa is near the Bull Wall in Dublin and has some beautiful walks. One day I say 15 herons...(my favourite bird..)
  6. The changes have lasted beyond the retreat...I've made a conscious decision to do more "creative" things like writing poetry and drawing (very very badly!) and to focus on what is working in my life.

Take Action! (or not!)

  1. Could you take a few days away with no-thing to do...just to BE. If you live in Dublin, why not check out the schedule at Manresa and take a couple of days to yourself...there is a 4 day retreat available as well...
  2. Can you get to spend some time in Nature..spend time really looking at a flower. The wonderful artist Georgia O'Keeffe (click here to see a slideshow of her work) talked about how we really need to look at a flower to see it.
  3. Michael Neill has a wonderful exercise to help get in touch with what Martha Beck calls "your essential self).
    1.  Close your eyes and connect with a favourite memory..it could be someone you love or who loves you.
    2. Get that warm fuzzy feeling...
    3. Put your hand on your physical heart..
    4. Now ask yourself what you need to take good care of yourself right now?
    5. Do the answer that pops into your head!

Consciousness shifting

I'm still offering complimentary sessions to all readers of this newsletter and you can read some more of the testimonials here

I wish I could really convey the power of this work...it's the most powerful thing I have ever come across to help eliminate the noisy buzz of our minds and get in touch with the deep silent happiness that lies beyond the yap, yap of our inner critic...actually have you ever noticed how your inner critic has favourite subjects..my personal inner critic likes to focus on the cobwebs in corners of my house, my inadequacies as a mother/cook, the dirt on the skirting boards. So it can be truly blissful just to tune out of that...so what's your inner critic's favourite speech!!!

If you have already availed of the complimentary session, why not consider booking another...just click here..

Note that there are three other coaches now available at this link.  We've been trained around the same time..Ewa is from Poland so if you know any Polish speakers that you think might be interested in the work...please forward this to them.

Here are some testimonials

I had a session with her recently and was astounded at the results. The session enabled me to be very clear indeed on the right course of action for me and I found myself behaving differently immediately, shifting quite naturally to a new and powerful way of thinking.

Recommended - what I'm reading/watching

Beautiful art: I recently had the privilege of receiving some beautiful art work from Cate MacKenzie. She paints hearts and they are truly beautiful....

Hard Candy: Yes, the newest one from the mutha of them all..Madonna. I love the energy and sheer pop zestiness of her music and I've had it on constant play..her voice sounds great and unlike Confessions on a Dancefloor (her last one) the quality is consistently good.  Oops, better go and put it on again!

This Charming Man by Marian Keyes: This book is a powerful portrait of an evil man...the self-titled "charming" man of the title...there's a peculiar vacuum to his character that always seems to me to characterise corruption. However, the book's darkness is relieved by its hilarious yet compassionate descriptions of "trannies" (tranvestites)

My sister's keeper by Jodi Picoult: Every now and then I read a book where I find the ending so heart-rending that I fear to read it again. This is such a book...(Gone, Baby, Gone by Dennis Lehane is another..although I might read it before I go to see the movie). It's about the real human impact of genetics...what happens when a sibling is conceived to help another...powerful stuff...
